Choose one small action

Think of a routine moment that often feels confusing. Write down what you usually say. Could your child tell exactly what action you mean? Replace a vague phrase with one clear action suited to their ability.

An original wording exercise

Imagine getting ready to leave. Instead of a general complaint about being late, offer two suitable clothing choices. Read your sentence aloud. Keep the wording simple enough to use when you are tired.

Make room to learn

This is a practice for the adult as well as the child. Notice what was understandable, and adjust the support you offer. A child struggling with a task may need help rather than another instruction.
